Quote of the day

Playing under the covers this morning in the 'bear cave'....
Walter: "I'm your best brother ever, Fritzy.  You're my best brother.  The End."

This boy...

This boy helped make pancakes this morning.  He then proceeded to eat four full sized oatmeal pancakes with blueberries and syrup.  It was astounding.  Mind you, his pants were still falling off all day and I could still see all of his ribs during bath time tonight.  Mr. Skinny sure can eat!

We made the most delicious recipe for oatmeal pancakes from a fun blog sent to me just last week.  They were really outstanding and will become my go to recipe.  This says a lot, because I am usually not a fan of pancakes.

A nice, quiet, calm bedtime routine.

The nightly circus:

New Jammies

Did you know that in the United States, kids pajamas are required to be made of fire repellent fabric?  This was never a problem when they were little because there were plenty of cute and cuddly pajamas readily available.  Now that Wally is bigger, I have been looking and looking and finding nothing but yuck in the stores.  The fabric is just this HORRIBLE polyester slick stuff or nice Hannah Andersen's that cost about $40 a pair.  Neither option was going to fly with me, so I had to break out the sewing machine and break the fire retardant laws!  And so I present, new jammies:

Fritz' smile is a thin disguise... He is actually fit to be tied about the pajama situation.  He wants some too and has thrown a jealous fit about them most nights since their appearance.  His drawer is bursting with hand me downs, so I hesitate to make more.

Joann's sale $2.49 a yard (didn't need entire yard) flannel plus Old Navy sale t-shirts $3.19 = $6 jammies. Pretty good deal, I think!  Now let's pray we never have a fire!

A kindergarten teacher lives here...

The digging box:

When I left teaching and my classroom three years ago, I was expecting baby Walter within two months time.  The idea of having kids big enough to play with the digging box seemed so, so far off that I gave away my bean box and lots of kindergarten learning toys.  Wow, time flies.  Suddenly there are not one, but TWO little boys, digging to their heart's content in the bean box.  It is basically a big mess in the garage and Fritz can hardly resist the temptation to throw beans everywhere.  A fun, tactile learning experience.  Time to dust off my pedagogy books...

Valentine's Day project, a little late!

I finished these a little late for Valentine's Day this year!  Also on display is the gorgeous new olive tree from my mom.  Lovely!

See the sparkly look in her eyes?  I bet they have this same happy, sparkly look tonight.

Congratulations Bridget and Michael!  We love you so much and we share in your excitement today!
