I am the current holder of two of these vintage elf hats that first belonged to my (twin) Aunt Lisa and Uncle Bob in the 50's.  They get passed around to babies in our family.  Tons of people stopped to ask me where I got this hat while we took these photos!

dd ranch

$5 per kid and parents free every Friday at DD Ranch in Terrebonne is a screaming deal if you ask me!  This place was awesome.  No crowds, just our families and one other.  A tractor pulled hay ride through the fields with a bit of ranch family history thrown in for good measure.  Two kids play areas, garden, vintage trucks and tractors, friendly dogs, picnic tables, and the most gorgeous modern barn I've ever seen.  They also have a petting zoo with goats, a donkey, chickens, ducks, a fat pig, a baby bunny, and turkeys.  We will be back.

a new collection

One of my favorite things to do of late is to pop into a thrift or antique shop and search for treasures.  This usually happens when I have a few minutes between working out and preschool pick up... it really wouldn't be very fun to take the boys into these precarious tiny places stuffed to the gills with poorly placed breakables!  While I am mostly smitten with the vintage kitchen wares, occasionally the boys benefit from the treasure hunt.  This week we started a new collection of old children's books and school primers.  They each have inscriptions from an aunt or children's names and handwriting and doodles smattered throughout.  I just love the sweet, nostalgic stories and find them to be so innocent compared to the more current book offerings.  Our new titles:
1. The Tale of Solomon Owl by Arthur Scott Bailey.  "Tuck-Me-In Tales" c. 1917
2. Elson-Gray Basic Readers Book One.  Which belonged to Tommy from district 44 in Northridge California.  c. 1930
3. Friendly Village.  "The Alice and Jerry Books" from the Public School Library in Red Lake, Minnesota.  c. 1936
