broccoli FLOP

Oh my.  Speaking of gardening flops, last night we attempted to enjoy the beautiful head of broccoli fresh from the garden.  I washed it, cut into florets, doused in olive oil and kosher salt to make my sister's famous "blasted broccoli" under the broiler.  Then I went to a preschool parent's meeting and Matt got caught up doing work.  We set about cooking dinner very late.  Good thing we waited!  By the time I came back to the broccoli to pop it in the oven, it was CRAWLING with bright green, olive oily caterpillars.  At least 15 of them.  Obviously I still have a lot of learning to do with this organic gardening hobby.  We don't want to eat caterpillars in the name of not spraying!  Add broccoli to the list of garden flops.  I'll be pulling the rest of it out of the beds today.  Uck.

  1. Reminds me of our broccoli growing experience only your Dad ate it and then realized it wasn't just broccoli! He then went out and covered the plants with insecticide powder and you would have thought it snowed! Love, M
