Blanc de Blanc

Our "home" for two nights, Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons.  A completely gorgeous Relais & Chateaux hotel with two Michelin Stars and a famous owner/chef, Raymond Blanc.  Complete and utter spoilage.

A warm welcome to the most chic room you've ever seen.

A lethal dessert.  It tasted divine but also ruined Matt's shirt and tie (as in, they were left in the garbage can as we drove off).  One gentle fork tap into this crisp pastry shell and the whole thing exploded morello cherry sauce into a some what embarrassing display on his chest resembling a horrific gun shot victim.  But tasty!
Stewed apricots, apricot sorbet, merenge, brule pastry shell, wild strawberries, and pistacios.  Amaze.
Really good fish dish with a most memorable smoked mashed potatoes.  Yum.
Their on site mushroom growing glen.
A chef in the garden at dinner time.  We sat outside one night and watched the chefs go across the lawns to the garden over and over to gather just enough greens for each salad ordered.
Espalier apples growing over every wall, arch, and gate.  Gorgeous.
Enormous kitchen garden/farm to supply the restaurant and perhaps the entire town.  Rows and rows of vegetables, fruit, greens, and herbs.

The whole estate was littered with bronze sculptures.  One can only imagine the cost of a bronze scarecrow for your garden!

Oxford and the English countryside.

Oxford: Amazing town full of historic halls of education and so many millions of tourists!

The Swan: 18th century coaching inn turned modern day antiques treasure trove.  I got in trouble with Matt for seriously slow browsing, but honestly could have stayed all day.  Rooms and rooms full of interesting art, furniture, and trinkets.
The Cotswolds: An ill timed detour on our route north to the wedding.  They looked gorgeous, but again, jam packed with tourists.  Having under estimated our driving time and still unsure of the pre-wedding dinner start time, we couldn't stop to explore.
The Red Pump Inn: Our B&B the night before the wedding.  The sun was out and so were the sheep.  Breakfast of scrambled eggs, cress, and local smoked salmon.  Yum!

Waddington: A little village near Clitheroe, which you arrive to on single lane roads and nearly die on the front grill of a barreling, speeding pair of tractors.

Getting there in style.

With the boys securely squared away with Cassie, Auntie Ali, Uncle Steve, Ryan, and Grandmere; we were whisked off to merry old England for my cousin Niall's wedding.  In style.  British Airways First Class style.  Ohhhh laaaa laaa!  Putting those Alaska Airline mileage points to good use.

the Doctors are IN.

This years' most popular birthday gift prize goes to..... the doctor kit.  Hands down.

Many thanks to Grandmere.  At least, I think it was from Grandmere.  They opened the presents before I could take stock of who each was from.

kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk!

The boys went about reciting Blueberries for Sal as we picked berries up the road this morning.   A favorite book, a favorite pastime, and a favorite summer fruit.  Perfect.

A certain 4 year old has a degree of measured discipline when picking berries.  A certain 3 year old hasn't gained this self control as of yet and cannot resist stuffing his mouth full of glorious blue sweetness.  Who can blame him?  5 lbs = $7.50 a good deal for under an hour of "work".
