1st Annual

Our 1st annual Petkun Family "Back to School Feast" was held tonight at the end of a long and trying day.  It started off amidst a massive temper tantrum but we did our best to rally.  Wally and Fritz helped make the turkey burgers (Obama White House recipe found in a 'Family Circle' magazine, Ha!) and baked a cake earlier in the day.  We held hands around the table and prayed a blessing for the school year and our little scholars.  It was lovely, even though Wally wiped off my cute sign in a fit of protest right before dinner.  Ah well, like all holidays and special events... you get what you get and love your family through it.

Miss Julie, Miss Ashley, and Miss Vicki

Our boys new teachers at Family of Christ Christian Preschool are Miss Julie, Miss Ashley, and Miss Vicki.  I bet I am going to be hearing a lot about these lovely ladies in the months to come!  They've made quite an impression on the boys already.

1st day of preschool, smiles all around!

Bride to Be

Isn't she cute?  Who says felt crowns are only for little kids?
10 days and counting!

the night before preschool

Am I prepared?  Emotionally, no.  Practically, no!  The boys things are packed for the first day of preschool tomorrow.  In shiny new backpacks?  No.  In plastic Target bags, yes!  Oh dear.  Well, the backpacks are on order and should arrive later this week.  Sadly for Wally and Fritz, they have a Mommy who refuses to buy gear, clothes, toys, etc. emblazoned with branded characters.  And basically that is all you can buy in a store.  Such a thing as a toddler's colorful, non-Disney/Pixar backpack is not possible to buy off the rack.  Thank goodness for the internet which allows me to stick to my guns.

How can these babies of mine be going to preschool?

Irish twins

I don't know why everyone constantly tells me the boys don't resemble one another.  Aside from the hair color, I think this couldn't be farther from the truth.  "Irish Twins" was a term I wasn't familiar with before getting (rather realizing) I was pregnant with #2.  In the early days, I was known as 'the girl with two babies', now we are a household buzzing with two toddler boys.  A little insane at times, but truly a blessing.

{this moment}

{this moment} - Joining Soulemama's Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

broccoli FLOP

Oh my.  Speaking of gardening flops, last night we attempted to enjoy the beautiful head of broccoli fresh from the garden.  I washed it, cut into florets, doused in olive oil and kosher salt to make my sister's famous "blasted broccoli" under the broiler.  Then I went to a preschool parent's meeting and Matt got caught up doing work.  We set about cooking dinner very late.  Good thing we waited!  By the time I came back to the broccoli to pop it in the oven, it was CRAWLING with bright green, olive oily caterpillars.  At least 15 of them.  Obviously I still have a lot of learning to do with this organic gardening hobby.  We don't want to eat caterpillars in the name of not spraying!  Add broccoli to the list of garden flops.  I'll be pulling the rest of it out of the beds today.  Uck.
